Circular economy
The circular economy strives to maximize the value of products, materials, and resources, re-integrate them into the production cycle, and to minimize waste. The University of West Bohemia in Pilsen supports these principles through science, research, and innovation, applying the results in practice.
Strategic aim 3:
UWB uses its potential to support society’s transition to a circular economy.
Specific aims:
Implementing circular economy principles
UWB focuses on innovations in the area of raw material recycling, material and energy savings, and product lifespan extension. Environmentally responsible public tenders stimulate the use of circular products, which increases the economic efficiency of the university’s operations.
Reducing waste and promoting recycling
The university strives to reduce material consumption and improve waste recycling from office, research, and catering operations. We will implement a system for responsible disposal of discarded property, and support product sharing between students and staff.
Modern water management
UWB applies smart water monitoring technologies, implements rainwater harvesting systems, and supports nature-based management practices. These practices improve the campus’ outdoor environment, support biodiversity, and are part of education for sustainable development.
Integrating principles into education
Circular economy is a key topic of university education. UWB integrates it into subject specializations, environmental education, and teacher training. The university also develops awareness in the field of circular economy at both the city and regional levels.
