Get involved

If you would like to actively participate in the planning, preparation, and implementation of sustainability initiatives at the University of West Bohemia, or if you have any suggestions or feedback, please get in touch with us.

Here you will find tips and recommendations on how to behave more sustainably at the University of West Bohemia, and at home:

Ten sustainable behaviours

1. Waste minimalization

Use reusable bottles, cups, bags, and packaging. Sort waste into available collection containers.

2. Saving energy

Turn on lights, electronics, and appliances only when needed. Don’t overheat offices.

3. Saving water

Reduce water waste and report any leaking taps and toilets. Use water efficiently, for example when washing, or watering plants.

4. Sustainable transport

Prefer public transport, cycling or walking. Share car rides with others, or use carpooling.

5. Responsible shopping

Buy only the essentials, and prefer quality products with a long shelf life. Support local producers, prefer environmentally friendly products, and products from organic farming.

6. Careful food management

Plan your grocery shopping to minimize waste. Don’t hesitate to ask for a smaller portion at a restaurant, or take uneaten food home in a reusable container or “doggy bag”.

7. Promoting biodiversity

lant native trees, shrubs, and flowers on your property that provide food and shelter for local wildlife, especially pollinators, birds, and small mammals. Build simple shelters for animals in your garden, such as insect hotels, birdhouses, or bat roosts. Promote biodiversity by reducing the use of pesticides and chemical fertilisers.

8. Sustainability education

Participate in courses, workshops, and lectures focused on ecology and sustainability. Share the knowledge you gain with colleagues and classmates.

9. Active involvement

Join volunteer activities focused on environmental protection. Inspire those around you to behave sustainably through your own example.

10. Respect for the environment

Be respectful of nature and other people. Think about the impact of your actions on the environment and society.
